Bernadette Dougherty

PsyD. | Doctor of Psychology

Bernadette Dougherty is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, who works with teens and adults. Her approach to therapy is collaborative, individualized, warm, and validating. She operates from a strength-and-values based, person-centered foundation, utilizing effective therapeutic strategies from DBT, ACT, trauma-focused treatments, mindfulness-based therapies, positive psychology, PST, RO-DBT, relational interventions, and CBT as appropriate to help each client reach their goals. Bernadette strives to integrate client values into treatment. She is passionate about social justice and advocating for mental health equity. 

Bernadette completed her PsyD in Clinical Psychology at La Salle University, training at sites including the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Cognitive Therapy, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and Corporal Michael V. Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She completed her doctoral internship at Montefiore Medical/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in Bronx, NY, receiving specialized training in interventions for trauma, anxiety, depression, emotion dysregulation, crisis intervention, harm reduction, solid organ transplant, chronic illness, and gender-affirming care. Bernadette completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at Princeton University, with advanced specialty training in DBT, trauma, and harm reduction approaches to high risk behaviors and substance use.

Bernadette is the Clinical Director at River Wards, and is available for intake assessments and clinical consultations when becoming a new client at River Wards. Bernadette oversees the clinical aspects of River Wards including the intake team, supervisors, and therapists.
