Leah Yarmus

LSW | Licensed Social Worker (In supervision toward clinical licensure)

There are so many reasons to seek out therapy. Maybe you have been in therapy for years, maybe this is your first time. Whatever the reason or your experience, I am glad that you are here. This world is hard: systems are oppressive, relationships and communities are complex and our individual survival strategies within all these dynamics are incredibly varied.  Every person’s life, experiences and circumstances form a different set of needs and for that reason in our work together we will draw from many different clinical modalities. Therapy can be a brave space that we build to reflect on what is happening for you, to process the road that led you here and to set in place obtainable, sustainable response strategies. To do so, we will incorporate a blend of somatic and psychodynamic therapies to unpack current, historical and intergenerational traumas.

I have a background in grassroots community organizing, particularly within the LGBTQIA+ communities and for housing justice. I have conducted low or no cost community workshops about abuse in relationships, harm reduction and skill sharing. My social justice orientation and desire for individual, community and collective liberation are a part of how I will show up for you in therapy.

I recognize that for some sharing their lives and traumas is an enthusiastic endeavor and for others it is required by their circumstance and can feel unfamiliar and challenging. It is my responsibility to meet you where you are, warmly and with humor and curiosity, holding space for you and working collaboratively to create pathways for your holistic needs.

Area of Focus:

Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, Men’s Issues, Women’s Issues, LGBTQIA+, Grief and Loss, Life Transitions, Unpacking diet culture/fat liberation, Somatic Processing, Pregnancy, Pregnancy loss, and Infertility

I accept Aetna, Cigna, Highmark, Quest, & United/Optum Insurances.
