Mara Hughes

LSW | Licensed Social Worker (In Supervision toward clinical licensure)

I know what it’s like to need therapy and still struggle to find a therapist, connect, and get the most out of it – let alone afford it. I can help make getting started with therapy easy.

I’m a psychodynamic, person-centered therapist practicing virtually and in person in Philadelphia, and I accept a variety of insurances to make therapy accessible. I specialize in working with adults with depression, anxiety, and mood disorder; LGBTQIA populations; individuals managing chronic and acute health issues; those seeking support for a body positive lifestyle; and folks dealing with grief, transitions, or adjustment issues.

In session, we’ll explore your experiences and how they fit into your past and the broader world. I take a trauma-informed, systemic approach, drawing on feminist frameworks, and strive to bring an anti-oppression lens to my work. My clients are ages 18 to 80, and are folks of all backgrounds, identities, and health statuses.

As a relational, attachment-based therapist, I believe that the relationship we co-create is the most important part of our therapy because it becomes a safe space and a testing ground for new emotional exploration. Taking the first step to beginning therapy is brave. Let’s discover the rest together.

I accepting Aetna, Cigna, & IBX Insurances.

I offer in-person therapy in Fishtown & Society Hill, as well as Teletherapy.
