Susan Kelly

LCSW | Licensed Clinical Social Worker

I’m a trauma-informed psychodynamic therapist with clinical experience covering a wide range of issues in adolescence and adulthood. I work with people experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma recovery/PTSD, grief, relationship issues, intimate partner violence, out-of-control behaviors, and school/work stress. I will support you in finding deeper feelings of fulfillment, ease, self-alignment, and possibility in your life.

I work primarily with teens and young adults in times of change or life disruption. Changes in social life, relationships, feeling a part of something bigger or not, family dynamics, and/or figuring out school or work can be tough on top of the things you’re already dealing with. Many people I work with feel stuck in some way. You don’t have to figure everything out alone.

My priority is to connect with you and create a foundation of trust on which to build our work. I see therapy as a dynamic process that we co-create together. There is space for the issues that come up day-to-day alongside the older sources of pain that have been with you.

My therapy approach is grounded in the understanding that past experiences and the world we grow up in influence us in conscious and unconscious ways.  Therapy with me includes attention beyond thinking and using the mind - increasing the capacity to feel your feelings and listen to your inner wisdom is an active part of the process. I use a strengths-based, whole-person perspective, and I offer skills and tools using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) depending on your goals for therapy. I encourage people to share meaningful reference points that help them understand themselves - like religious, spiritual, or cultural teachings, books, stories, characters, games, or memes.

People describe me as genuine, warm, humorous, and straight-forward. I work well with people of all backgrounds. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community with non-monogamous experience, I work with many LGBTQ+ people and people in non-monogamous relationships.

I deeply respect the unique lives of the individuals I work with, and I love to witness their progress toward their goals.

I accept Aetna, Cigna, & Quest insurances.

I am available for telehealth and in-person appointments in Fishtown & Northern Liberties.
